Town Rangers This Month

The Town Rangers team has been busy on their quest to make Barnstaple a cleaner and more attractive town, including work carried out in the town centre, along local streets and footpaths and in and around Rock Park.  Now officially labelled by the Met Office as ‘the wettest March in 40 years’, it realty has been a struggle to get jobs done, but much praise is due to our Rangers who continue to get as many tasks completed as they can despite the inclement weather. Rock Park has been particularly challenging and with the water table being so high standing water has remained in some sections of the park for several weeks.

No Mow May

Out and about, our Rangers have been putting up the signs for this year’s ‘No Mow May’, encouraging flora and fauna and helping our bee population, without whom the whole eco system would struggle to function.

Bollards Painted 2 March 2024

Town Centre

In town there has been a focus on repainting and sprucing up many of the bollards. As the photos show these are now looking resplendent, admittedly on a rare day of late March sunshine! The work on the bollards is two-fold. It certainly brightens up the general vista, but highly visible bollards play a major role in vehicle and pedestrian safety. They are also re-painted following liaison with the RNIB, making them more easily negotiable for those with impaired vision.

Graffiti

There has also been a concerted effort to remove unwanted graffiti from our town’s streets and buildings. The photo shows one recent example of this, from one of the bus shelters in town.
