Barnstaple Town Council Celebrates Five-Star award for Rock Park in South-West In Bloom ‘Pride in Parks Award’.

Barnstaple Town Council is pleased to announce that Rock Park has been awarded a five-star rating at the South-West in Bloom ‘2024 Pride in Parks’ Award.
The five-star award highlights Barnstaple’s community involvement, the commitment to park maintenance and environmental sustainability. The recognition from South-West in bloom celebrates the dedication of volunteer groups including Barnstaple in Bloom, Barnstaple Town Council Rangers and local residents in preserving a beautiful space in the heart of Barnstaple.
The award acknowledges key areas of excellence:
Community involvement – The judges commended community collaboration with local groups including Barnstaple in Bloom’s project with Lampard Community School. As well as events such as regular park runs and picnic in the park initiatives.
Maintenance and Sustainability – The park’s planting strategy prioritises sustainability, utilising and mix of shrubs, perennials and bulbs. Native trees have been carefully preserved and composting practices are in place to ensure environmental responsibility.
Environmental Excellence – Rock Park was praised for its well-maintained surroundings with clear paths and spaces free from graffiti, litter and dog fouling. Children’s play equipment was commended for being in excellent condition.
Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Janet Coates said; “We are delighted to receive this five-star rating from South-West in Bloom. This award reflects the hard work and passion of our community, volunteers and Town Rangers. It’s wonderful to see our shared commitment to sustainability, conservation and community engagement being celebrated”.
Estates Manager, Wayne Palmer said “It’s a wonderful achievement for the team and residents to receive the award for Rock Park. Rock Park offers the perfect blend of nature, community and accessibility, making it an inviting space for all”.
Chair of Barnstaple in Bloom, Frances Bell MBE said; “We enjoy making our town as lovely as it can be. Everyone who volunteers for Barnstaple in Bloom sacrifices so much time and energy for the whole community”.
The Town Council is dedicated to ensuring that Rock Park continues to flourish as an inclusive and environmentally responsible space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
