Allotments

Barnstaple Town Council provide allotments for local people to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers. Our allotments are for use by people who live within Barnstaple Town Boundary. The Council has over 250 plots in 5 sites across Barnstaple.

Applying for an allotment – When you apply for an allotment you can select up to two sites as your first and second choice.

Allotment agreement – If we offer you an allotment you have 17 days, from the date of your letter, to accept the plot. If you do not respond to this offer the plot will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.  If you accept the offer of an allotment to rent you will sign an allotment agreement which is a legally binding contract in which you agree to

• Look after your plot and allotment site
• Follow the terms and conditions in the agreement and the rules and guidance or your may be evicted.

There is a primary and secondary waiting list for each allotment site, to enquire about renting an allotment please contact us.

You will need to complete an application form and return it to us either via post or email, you will then be placed on the waiting list.

The Primary Waiting List is for people that live in Barnstaple, who do not already rent an allotment plot from the Town Council. This system operates on a first come first serve basis and takes priority over the secondary waiting list.

The Secondary Waiting List is for tenants that already rent an allotment from the Town Council and would like an additional plot. The systems also operates on a first come first serve basis, but will only be considered if there is no one on the primary waiting list.
