A vacancy for a councillor on Barnstaple Town Council will be decided at a by-election on Thursday 14th September 2017.
The vacancy in Barnstaple’s Central Town ward came about following the resignation of Loki Dawson as a councillor, for personal reasons. Under election laws, a by-election is triggered if ten local electors request an election to fill a vacancy, and the request was confirmed to Barnstaple Town Council earlier this month.
Town Clerk Will Austin said “It’s very unfortunate that we’ve lost a councillor as it means another election for the residents of the Central Town Ward following two general elections, local elections and a referendum in the recent past. However, I’d urge people to take part in this important by-election. The Town Council is becoming more and more involved in delivering services in Barnstaple, and the successful candidate will have a part to play in developing our heritage, cultural, environmental, civic and ceremonial services, as well as standing up for his or her local community. This is a real opportunity for the community to influence our work in these and other areas.”
The candidates standing in the election are:
Robbie Mack (Green Party)
Laurence Overend (Labour Party)
Julian Williams (Liberal Democrats)
The by-election is arranged by North Devon District Council, with the cost met by Barnstaple Town Council.
