THE MAYOR & MAYORAL YEAR

The Mayor - Cllr Alan Rennles
Cllr Alan Rennles is very proud to have been elected by his fellow members of Barnstaple Town Council as Mayor for 2019/2020.
Cllr Rennles was elected onto the Council in 2015 and represents the Longbridge Ward, which runs from Barnstaple Bridge to the top of Sticklepath near the junction of Woodville Estate. Cllr Rennles supported Cllr Roome as Deputy Mayor during the mayoral year 2018/2019.

Alan was born in North Devon and worked on Hele Manor Farm, Sticklepath from the age of 13. On leaving school at 15, Alan took up a full time job on the farm, having enjoyed an outdoor job, he then went on to join HM Royal Marines in 1968. The next 23 years Alan served in many theatres across the world. He left the Royal Marines in 1991 as the Training Design and Quality Control Adviser to the Corps.

In 1976, Alan married his wife Sue and together they have two grown up children, one of whom is married to a local businessman, with a young daughter and the other is a successful chef currently living and working in the Midlands.

Alan has previously been Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee for Barnstaple Town Council and has sat on the Heritage, Culture and Community Committee. He is also the member for Roundswell /Woodville Ward on Fremington Parish Council.

Before moving back to Sticklepath nearly 5 years ago, Alan and his family lived in Landkey for 30 years. During this time, Alan served on Swimbridge Parish Council and was elected to North Devon District Council as the ward member for Landkey and Swimbridge.

Before retiring, Alan had the privilege of working at Fremington Army Camp until it was closed and then moved on to Okehampton Battle Camp as the Facilities Manager.
